What attitudes does your culture have toward sleep?

After reading the chapter, looking over the PowerPoint slides, and watching the YouTube videos below, please answer the following questions.


Think of a time in which you stayed up all night or lost several hours of sleep in one night. What were the effects of your sleep deprivation?
Were these effects consistent with the research presented in the text regarding sleep deprivation?
Biologically, humans are “preprogrammed” to have one major sleep cycle at night and another short one in mid-afternoon. In some cultures, a siesta is the norm; in other cultures, people are expected to remain awake all day. Other cultures may emphasize practices that lead to sleep deprivation, such as working long hours, socializing until late at night, and getting up early in the morning. What attitudes does your culture have toward sleep?
